Globally, twice as much land is used to raise livestock as for growing crops, and of the crops that are grown, a third are fed to livestock rather than directly to people. Agriculture is responsible for 70% of the world’s freshwater use and two-thirds of biodiversity loss, and is a major source of water pollution from the run-off and leaching of animal waste and fertiliser.
