Timaru District Council set to sign climate change declaration – Mathew Littlewood, Timaru Herald

Falling into line?: Timaru mayor Damon Odey, flanked by Waimate mayor Craig Rowley and Mackenzie mayor Graham Smith, is pushing for his council to sign the Local Government New Zealand Leaders' Declaration on Climate Change which is yet to be signed by Waimate and Mackenzie.

Currently Timaru, Waimate and Mackenzie district councils are three of 18 territorial authorities, from a total of 78 in New Zealand, yet to sign Local Government Leaders’ Climate Change Declaration.  Timaru is, however, set to fall into line with a report from Mayor Damon Odey, being presented at Tuesday’s council meeting recommending signing.
